The restaurant is divided into two rooms, one of which is a typical cellar with very old vaulted ceilings of great beauty. The menu changes every month, so that it can always make use of fresh seasonal ingredients of the very best quality, while there is a huge variety of dishes to choose from, ranging from the true classical Tuscan cuisine to the unusual creative ideas, permitting imagination and curiosity. This creative ability in fact is really what brought fame to the “Barbagianni” from the moment it opened, though imagination never overrules the traditional Tuscan cuisine of the past and the menu includes many “timeless” platters that it is always a pleasure to re-discover. There is a huge choice of starters, first and second courses, so that clients can taste platters based on meat or fish, enjoy various types of fresh pasta or the home made desserts, explore the magical world of cheese, with a selection of Italian and French varieties of cheese, breath in the smell of the soups of the day and a lot more besides. We advise you to start off with the very popular Barbagianni hors d’oeuvres platter composed of a selection of nibbles. Follow up with crunchy risotto and a fillet of sea bass on some stewed leeks, or potato gnocchi with a squid “inzimino”, or even bitter cocoa tortelli stuffed with braised wild boar. Apart from the traditional steaks, second courses include the tasty pork in a poppy-seed crust with a hot spicy apple pickle or the saffron-flavoured fillet of sea bass with clams and vegetables. Last but by no means least, try one of the delicious home made desserts. A wide choice of excellent vegetarian dishes is also available. The cellar boasts a vast selection of wines with a qualified sommelier on hand for those needing advice.
