The typical environment with paintings by well-known artists is relaxing and intimate. The Renaissance menu, coordinated by the chef Francesco Pirozzi, is one of the restaurant’s highpoints and includes platters like the Grand Ducal Au Gratin, the Lorenzo the Magnificent Fillet and the Orange-scented Lobster whiskers, which won the Maitre of the Year award. It also offers a wide selection of Tuscan specialities, as well as fish dishes, like the croutons topped with extra virgin olive oil from Poggio Piano, the sea-food fantasy, the angler fish casket, marrow-flavoured risotto and the lemon and prawn tagliatelle. These are followed up by traditional dishes that include Florentine tripe, tagliata (sliced steak) with Colonnata lard, Livorno-style salted cod, inzimino, really tender Florentine steaks or perfectly cooked Maremma-style wild boar. The desserts are all homemade and we warmly advise the Profeta’s trifle, a dessert that falls halfway between a tiramisù (a coffee flavoured trifle) and a zabaglione. The restaurant is a regular venue for painters, singers, musicians and actors.
Il Profeta is over 30 years old. Regularly mentioned in the Michelin Guide, this historic restaurant, run by Claudio Pieri, is one of the few places in Florence that has always managed to maintain the same high level of quality.
