La Falterona is the ideal venue for young people as well as families, for not only does it compare very well in price and quality, but also allows them to discover all the joys of good food. Claudio’s research has brought the very best Tuscan sheep’s cheeses to the table, together with selected Casentino dressed meats that can be tasted among the starters; do not miss the layered pastry and whipped cod platter, the layered pastry with egg plants or the delicious buffalo mozzarella. These can be followed up with first courses such as pappardelle served with a Chianina steak ragout, tagliatelle with a ragout of suckling pig, classical pappardelle with duck sauce or the traditional farmyard ragout. The meat on the menu is of the highest quality and cooked to special recipes that include the large platter of sliced steak and Boletus mushrooms, Argentine steak fillet thickened with port in an almond crust, vintage mustard and honey flavoured breast of duck, fillet of suckling pig in a lard-topped crust or the really tender and certified Chianina steaks. The desserts are all home made and include a huge plain chocolate soufflé, apple cake or cheesecake with woodland fruit. The cellar offers a wide range of over 240 labels, most of them Tuscan and Italian, but with some French wines as well. The qualified service is efficient and friendly.
Claudio and Amalia truly enjoy continuing the traditions of offering a warm welcome and good home cooking to their clients in this typical trattoria in San Lorenzo, which has been open since 1933: the menu they propose is in fact full of carefully researched experimental platters combined with an excellent selection of top quality regional and international products.
