It is in fact the only restaurant in Tuscany to belong to the Consortium of Producers of Fine Beef from Italian Breeds of Cattle and this obviously allows the owners to offer their clients the very best Chianina beef for their Florentine steaks, sliced steaks and peposo (a traditional peppery stew). The steaks and sliced steaks are moreover served at the table on sizzling hot plates to ensure that they are eaten at the right temperature.
Apart from enjoying a complete meal, clients dining at the restaurant can, if they prefer, simply order just a starter or one of the excellent pizzas. The starters are really imaginative, ranging from the small artichoke flans served with a selection of dressed Sienese belted pork or dressed meats with a Parmesan pudding to lukewarm seafood salad with baby tomatoes and rocket. Some of the delicious first courses include the homemade gnocchetti (small dumplings), composed of fresh potatoes and creamed truffles, or the ravioli with pears and sheep's cheese in a walnut sauce.
The spectacular spit-cooked meats hold pride of place among the second courses. The fragrant sliced beef served with Boletus mushrooms or the classical Florentine steak of Chianina beef, are cooked to perfection in the traditional way in one of the few surviving wood ovens in the city. These are followed by the homemade desserts, such as chocolate cake, tiramisù (coffee cream cake), and a delicious hot apple pastry.
The proprietors prepare and comment on the wine list, which includes over one hundred labels of quality, and explain the type of vineyard, fragrance, the organoleptic qualities and their match with the various platters. Another novelty is the "Coffee list" from the Torrefazione Piansa, which allows clients to taste the famous Jamaican coffee, said to be the finest in the world, as well as 5 other blends.
The professional service is diligent and cordial. It is also worth remembering that the pizzeria is open at lunchtime as well. The restaurant stays open until late at night and is therefore ideal for a complete meal or just a pizza.
