Trattoria Il Porcospino
The Tuscan Trattoria Porcospino, right opposite the Medici Chapels, is inviting for both young and old thanks to its refined and beautiful furnishings, while the frescoed walls enliven the fascinating Brunelleschi style architecture.
The cheerful and friendly staff, the carefully detail-designed furnishings (like the attractive counter with a series of Tuscan hams and salamis hanging above it), the elegantly intimate frescoed dining rooms, the traditional cooking and newer variations, beautifully served on large decorative plates and comparing well in price and quality, have made this trattoria one of the most fashionable in Florence. All the ingredients used, like the meat and fish, are really fresh and of top quality. The pasta and the desserts are homemade. The Mediterranean and Tuscan platters are accompanied by specialities from Liguria, where the owner Valerio Fascio originally came from. Here you can taste magnificent Tuscan starters, pasta with pesto sauce, Genoan vegetable soups and pansotti (stuffed pastry), pappe al pomodoro (tomato bread soup), pappardelle with Boletus mushrooms, tagliatelle with lobster, a really tender Florentine steak, sliced steak, ossobuco (stewed marrow-bones), Tuscan vegetable fries and tripe. The homemade desserts include tiramisù (coffee flavoured trifle) and cream caramel. You can dine until late at the Porcospino, even on just a glass of wine and tastings from a tray of assorted dressed meats, while admiring the panoramic view of the Basilica of San Lorenzo from the delightful summer terrace. Coordinated by Franco, the service is friendly. The cellars underneath the Trattoria host a splendid Wine-Bar, where you can taste various specialities accompanied by the best Tuscan reds or magnificent white wines or grappas, together with theme evenings and an excellent list of Tuscan and Italian wines. The Trattoria is also ideal for meetings and an excellent choice for tourist groups. Parking is available in the nearby underground car park of San Lorenzo.
